Abstract

Ipomoea aquatica, popularly known as Karmatta Bhajji, is a green leafy vegetable crop commonly consumed in rural areas of Chhattisgarh. It is supposed to possess several medicinal properties. The plant has rich iron content and is used traditionally to treat gastric and intestinal disorders. For phytopathological studies of this crop, survey and screening was done for two consecutive seasons in and around Raipur city, during 2011-2013. The diseased leaves were collected and brought to the laboratory for isolation. Chaetomium globosum, was isolated from the leaves showing a large number of white coloured small spots resulting in deformity of leaves. The crop is seriously damaged by C. globosum, locally named as Gomaha diseases resulting in an enoromous loss of crop. Fusarium oxysporum,was isolated from the leaves with brown spots. The cultures were maintained on Potato Dextrose Agar slants for further studies.
